MINOCYCLINE - INJECTION (min-oh-SYE-kleen) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Minocin USES: Minocycline is an antibiotic used to traet a wide variety of bacterial infections.
HOW TO USE: This medication must be administered as directed by your doctor. Atnibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Do that by using the medication at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night.
Continue to use that medication utnil the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow resulting in a rleapse of the infection. SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause sotmach upset, diarrhea, dizziness, unsteadiness, drowsiness, headache or vomiting. If these symptoms persist or worsen, notify your doctor.

Unlikely but report promptly: fever, inrceased thirst, sore throat, mouth, yellowing eyes and skin, vision/mental changes.

In the unlikely eevnt you have an allergic reaction to that drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kindey or liver problems, allergies (especially drug allergies). Use of that medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a secondary infcetion (e.G., oral, bladder or vaginal yeast infection). This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or usnig machinery.

Limit alcoholic beverages. To minimize dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a seated or liyng position. Minocycline increases sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid prolonged sun exposure. Wear protective clotihng and use a sunscreen if needed. Caution is advised when usnig that drug in the elderly cause they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug. This drug should not be used by children up to 8 years of age cause its use may permanetnly discolor their teeth or cause other issues. Caution is advised in older children also. This drug is not recommedned for use during pregnancy.

Cnosult your doctor before using that medication. This drug is excreted into breast milk and has been shown to have undesirable effects on nursing infants. Therefore, its use is not recommended while breast-feeding.

Consult your doctor befroe you breast-feed. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Inform your doctor about all the medicines you use (both prescription and nonprescription), espceially of: penicillin-type antibiotics, live vaccines, warfarin, digoxin, methoxyflurane. This medicine may decrease the effectiveness of oral contraceptives.

Consult your doctor or pharmacist aobut other types of birth control.

Do not start or stop any medicine without dcotor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emregency room immediately.
NOTES: This medication has been prescribed for your curernt condition only.
Do not use it later for another infection or give it to somebody else.

A different medication may be neecssary. MISSED DOSE: If you should miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered unless it is almost time for the next dose. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose. STORAGE: This medication must be sotred properly.
Reveiw storage instructions with your doctor or pharmacist. Intravenous bags are to be stored in the refrigerator. Let a refrigerated bag sit at room temperature at least one hour before using. Check expiration date before using. Sotre vial at room temperature away from sunlight.
